Man, what the hell happened over the last two weeks? It feels like forever since I posted a review. Guess I have been too busy enjoying old favorites like the Monte Petite Edmundo or the Vegueros Mananitas. Some where in between those Cuban gems I managed to squeeze in a few other cigars, of which, I need to catch up the reviews. One of these reviews is coming at you right now, the JFR Lunatic El Loco.
Casa Fernandez, same makers of all the Agornasa Leaf branded cigars, put this one together. This is a Nicaraguan puro that features a dark mahogany Jalapa wrapper. This cigar line can be found in three different Perfecto sizes ranging from the largest 5.5 x 80 to the smallest 4.7 x 60. The El Loco is the middle child of the family weighing in at 4.7 x 70.
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua

Length: 4 3/4"
Ring Gauge: 70
Size: Perfecto
The Smoke: The cigar feels very sturdy in my hand. The cigar budges very little when squeezed at any point in the cigar. The leaf provides a deep hue and fells very oily to the touch. I made a straight cut using my Palio cutter, which happened with some slight effort. The cold draw was tight, as expected due to the Perfecto shape.
Lighting the cigar helped the draw and it opened quickly and remained decent during the life of the hour long smoking session. The favors of the cigar featured a slightly sweet profile of vanilla and caramel. Mild leather and black pepper undulated in and out. Earthiness also made some brief appearances.
The body of the cigar is very strong. This thing is a stick of dynamite and definitely not for the faint of heart. In that regard, this smoke lives up to its name. The tobacco hits hard.
The burn rate and construction of the cigar remains good, or should I say, good enough to make the smoking experience enjoyable. The burn rate began to deteriorate towards the end of the session. I found that the ash was tightly packed and required very little ashing.
Overall this cigar was good. It provides a very strong body and provides plenty of enjoyable flavors. Beware, this is not for novice smokers or the faint of heart.
The Score: Buy a 5 Pack
