My Father S Special

My Father S Special

Another day and another review of a Nicaraguan puro. Shocking. This one was first released in 2011 by My Father Cigars. It started as a toss-in bonus for purchasing a My Father Box at various trade shows back then and came in a three pack in a red box.  Out there on the interwebs you could probably dig deep enough to produce a three pack but don't hold your breath, they are not common.

Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Length: 5"
Ring Gauge: 50

My Father S Special Review

The Smoke: This particular cigar represents the last of a three pack I got about a year ago as a toss in for purchasing a box of Flor de Las Antillas. Imagine that. The wrapper is a solid brown hue that has some veins but less than most cigars. There is a nice bounce to the cigar when it is squeezed and then released and it generally has a solid construction.

The cap was removed by my straight cutter with a bit more effort than usual but nothing that made me or the cigar worse for wear. The cold draw was good and had a nice wood and leather note.

The lit cigar maintained a solid draw. The flavor was cedar with some faint pepper and earth along with some mild sweetness. These flavors went from beginning to end and this cigar, flavor wise, felt a bit like a one trick pony. This, in itself, is not a negative as that one trick pony was solid and able to compete for the podium like it was going for gold at the Olympics. The body was light to medium while the smoke felt creamy and was a perfect fit for relaxing on a Autumn afternoon in North Florida.

Towards the negative, however, was the burn rate and general construction. The cigar began to canoe about half stick which was a slightly frustrating as corrective burns did very little to correct but in reality it did not cause the smoking experience to deteriorate all that much.

To sum up my thoughts, this was a decent cigar. It is more mild than the smoke I would seek out. It had good flavor even though it was not complex by any stretch. The draw and construction maintained through the life of the smoke. I would not pass up one of these if it was handed to me but I cannot imagine that I would work to find another three pack of these.
