Gran Habano Vintage 2002

Gran Habano Vintage 2002 Robusto

I found this traditionally sized robusto cigar in the bottom of one of my humidors the other day and it seemed like a good choice for a mid-day smoke in the Florida heat last Sunday. If I remember correctly, I won a 20 pack of these from CBid about 2 years ago and I believe I have another four or five left after this particular stick. These run fairly cheap in the cigar prices ranging from $2.50 to about $3.50 USD per cigar.

This cigar is made in Honduras but uses tobacco from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic and is wrapped by a Nicaraguan corojo leaf. The Gran Habano Vintage 2002 is presented in a thin Spanish cedar wood wrap which I found especially stubborn and tough to remove while attempting to not damage the cigar.

Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua, Dominican Republic
Length: 5"
Ring Gauge: 50
Size: Robusto

The Smoke: The cold draw has some leather and light floral. Once lit, the cigar continues with those two flavors, but it also adds some nuts and earth. The profile is medium to full bodied. While smoking the construction remains strong but the burn rate is slightly uneven. Nothing too bad but certainly something to keep an eye on.  Overall, this cigar is a great value. I mean, the flavors instantly top some $10 USD priced cigars. This would be a great cigar for novice smokers that are seeking to branch out from more mild cigars into one with a bit more oomph.
