Alec Bradley Nica Puro Torpedo

Alec Bradley Nica Puro Torpedo

The Alec Bradley Nica Puro is a Nicaraguan Puro... duh, its in the name. The cigar features Nicaraguan long filler tobacco and a Nicaraguan grown Habano leaf wrapper. This commonly found cigar line is offered in six vitolas running from a short robusto to a churchill and a few sizes in between. These cigars will empty the pocket around $8.50 USD per stick.

Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Length6.2"
Ring Gauge: 54
Size: Torpedo

The Smoke: To begin, I pulled the cigar out of the cellophane wrapper. To my dismay, the ring label remained in the cellophane wrapper after I pulled the cigar out. A sign of things to come, I suppose. After fishing the band out of the cellophane, I managed to reinstall it to get the required Instagram friendly picture. It was then that i noticed this cigar is not really made all that well. The band, for instance, was very loose on the cigar. Secondly, the point of the torpedo was not shaped consistently. When inspecting the foot, I noticed that there were substantial gaps of nothingness when the common cigar is dense at the foot.

I removed the cap with my Palio straight cutter. The cold draw had some mild cedar and pepper. After lighting the cigar, these flavors continued and lasted through the smoke. Through the life of the smoke there are undulating notes of leather and cocoa. Overall, the flavors and body of the cigar are more subtle; I would consider this cigar medium bodied.

As the smoke progress, the cigar maintains its construction which surprised me, frankly. The burn rate, however, was uneven and down right mildly infuriating as it required constant attention.

Alec Bradley makes some awesome smokes, but this is not one of them. Through in the price point and this cigar is down right underwhelming and massively over priced. At one point, I felt compelled to not even write this review as I tend to have my reviews be positive and not being me openly shitting on a cigar. Even more so when considering the last few Alec Bradley cigars I smoked were pretty darn good and I was wondering if I just got a bad sample in this one. Perhaps, but for the sake of transparency, the reviews must go on.
